IPL schedule only for the first 15 days will be revealed and the roster for the other games will be decided after the Lok Sabha elections dates are announced.
Digital Desk: The 17th edition of Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is all set to start on Friday, March 22, 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has adhered to its tradition of starting the IPL season every year on the last Friday of March.
The inaugural match of Tata IPL 2024 will witness a showdown between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings. Scheduled at 7:30 PM, the opening clash will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
IPL schedule only for the first 15 days will be revealed and the roster for the other games will be decided after the Lok Sabha elections dates are announced. The dates for the Lok Sabha polls are expected to be announced in early March. When asked if there’s any chance that the league might be staged elsewhere owing to the elections, Dhumal made it clear that “it won’t happen overseas. That is why we are waiting for Lok Sabha election dates so that we can plan the venues accordingly.”
It’s not the first time the league has been staged at the same time as the general elections. Back in 2009, the second season of the IPL was moved to South Africa while in 2014, the first 20 matches of the season were played in the UAE and the rest in India.
All 10 teams participating in the tournament have been divided into two groups, namely Group A and Group B, with each group comprising five teams. Throughout the league stage, each team will play a total of 14 matches, consisting of seven home games and seven away games. This ensures a balanced and fair competition as teams vie for a spot in the playoffs. The upcoming season of Tata IPL 2024 will feature a total of 70 league-stage matches, which will be played across 12 venues over a span of 52 days.
