ICC World Cup 2023: India stands No.1 in points tally pulling New Zealand, SA down after defeating Rivalry team Pakistan

Both India and New Zealand have six points apiece, however, India has ascended to first place...

Digital Desk: After a crushing 7-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, India displaced New Zealand atop the ICC World Cup 2023 points table.

Both India and New Zealand have six points after winning their first three games of the tournament, but India has jumped from third to first because of their higher net run rate. India now has a net run rate of +1.821, while New Zealand has a net run rate of +1.604.

South Africa, the only team other than India and New Zealand to maintain an all-will record, is in third place with four points. They do, however, have the best net run rate, and if they win their next match against the Netherlands on Tuesday in Dharamsala, they will go to the top of the World Cup points standings.

India, on the other hand, believes it can maintain its top rank by defeating Bangladesh in Pune on October 19. This follow-up victory over Pakistan also helped India maintain their lead in the ICC One-Day International rankings.

After Pakistan crumbled from 155-2, India bowled them out for 191.

They reached the target with 117 balls to spare, extending their unbeaten run against their rivals to eight games in the 50-over event.

Rohit Sharma stood out with his 63-ball innings, which included six fours and six sixes, as India remained unbeaten in their three matches in this season.

Pakistan presently has two wins and one defeat in the 10-nation tournament, whereas India has won all three matches so far in this World Cup adventure.
