India won the match but Bismah Maroof's daughter wins heart

Digital Desk: India won their first Women's ODI World Cup match against Pakistan on Sunday, but the winners were bowled over by Bismah Maroof's daughter after the game.

Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof's daughter, Fatima stole the hearts of Indian players, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) released a photo of the ladies in blue with Bismah and her child, putting the rivalry aside.

Prior to the match against India, Bizmah spoke to Cricbuzz on the difficulties of juggling a newborn with a career. "A kid need the mother. If I had to continue my profession, I would have worried about where my child would go. And who will look after the child if I'm on the field? Hiring a babysitter and accompanying her everywhere is costly, and as female cricketers, we do not earn enough to afford such luxury. Our contracts enable us to exist and earn a living, but without a parental policy, it would have been difficult to continue playing with a child nearby."

On Sunday, India overcame a top-order slump to defeat Pakistan by 107 runs, maintaining their unblemished record against their neighbours in the women's cricket World Cup. India had won all eleven previous one-day matches between the two teams, but Bismah's squad threatened an upset by reducing Mithali Raj's side to 114-6 in the 34th over.

Opener Smriti Mandhana hit 52, but it was counter-attacking blows from lower-order batsmen Pooja Vastrakar (67) and Sneh Rana (53), who led India to a respectable total of 244-7.

Pakistan were bowled out for 137 with seven overs remaining as Indian seamers kept it tight upfront and spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad (4-31) shredded the middle order. Richa Ghosh, India's adolescent wicketkeeper, was responsible for five dismissals.
