Tanmay, who had earlier achieved his triple century in just 147 balls, was eventually dismissed for 366 runs, falling short of Brian Lara's First-Class match score of 501*.
Digital Desk: In a Ranji Trophy Plate Group encounter against Arunachal Pradesh, Tanmay Agarwal, a talented opening batsman from Hyderabad, achieved the fastest triple-hundred in first-class cricket history, shattering yet another world record.
Tanmay, who had earlier achieved his triple century in just 147 balls, was eventually removed for 366 runs, falling short of Brian Lara's First-Class match score of 501*. However, he did succeed in recording the highest number of sixes ever by a batsman in an innings of a First-Class game—26.
New Zealand's Colin Munro had previously held the record for most sixes scored in a First-Class match with twenty-three. On Friday, Tanmay amassed 323 off 160 balls without losing and had hit 33 fours and 21 sixes. On Saturday, he continued his innings and hit five more sixes before getting out for 366.
Prior to this, the 28-year-old Indian batsman smashed the record set by South African player Marco Marais, who in a First Class Cricket match against Border and Western Province, scored a triple ton in 191 balls.
The overwhelming victory over a team from the northeast, however, prompted doubts about their immediate inclusion in the Ranji Trophy, where records are being smashed with monotonous regularity.
"I'm thankful and feeling well. Once I hit 150, I simply kept hitting, and good fortune was on my side. Whenever I found the middle of the bat, the balls would go out. I simply kept hitting and batting," Agarwal had stated to PTI on Friday.
"We just set a world record. Nothing was scheduled. I had no intention of doing this or that. It simply transpired," he had said.
The match took place at Hyderabad's 'Gen-Next' cricket ground on the outskirts of the city. At the end of the day's play, Tanmay's undefeated 323 off just 160 balls contributed to a massive 529 for 1 in just 48 overs.
