Digital Desk: News18 CricketNext reports revealed that Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah would almost certainly return to competitive cricket during the three-match T20I series against Ireland in August.

Bumrah has been out with a back issue since September of last year. On September 25, he appeared in a home T20I against Australia. In March, Bumrah underwent back surgery and began a six-week rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

As a result, Bumrah was unable to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or India's World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, which Rohit Sharma and company lost by 209 runs.

"Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series this August." It will be a huge boost for the Indian cricket squad and will also provide Bumrah more time in the middle following his lengthy injury layoff. If everything goes as planned, a Bumrah in peak condition is likely to take the pitch', a senior board official informed while talking to News18 CricketNext.

However, if Bumrah plays T20Is against Ireland, he will get some playing time before the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup later this year.

NCA chief VVS Laxman and Head Sports Science and Medicine Department Nitin Patel have kept a close check on Bumrah's progress towards full fitness. Nitin has previously served as the Indian cricket team's and Mumbai Indians' (MI) head physio.

Bumrah was named to India's side to face Sri Lanka in a home series in January, but he was forced to withdraw due to a persistent back problem. The Mumbai Indians, too, were patient in terms of Bumrah's lifespan and never intended to rush him back into play.

"Everyone recognises the value of Bumrah in any team. In the IPL, it might be the Indian team or the Mumbai Indians. With earlier attempts to bring him back failing, everyone was content to play the waiting game and enable the seamer to restore full health before he played for India again," a source close to the situation informed News18 CricketNext.

In July, India will go on a full-fledged tour of the West Indies. India will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is in the Caribbean.
