Digital Desk: In the ongoing second Test in Trinidad, which is the 100th Test between India and the West Indies, Virat Kohli made his mark by scoring his 76th international century and 29th in the longest format. From his overnight score of 88, Kohli reached three figures minutes after the game began as India made a total of 438 to seize command of the situation. When he was run out for 121 after Alzarri Joseph's direct knock at the non-striker's end from square-leg, the former India captain was undone by an error in judgement.
There was a special supporter inside the Queen's Park Oval during Virat Kohli's innings in Trinidad. And it was none other than West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva's mother.
Da Silva previously disclosed that her mother came specifically to watch Kohli bat.
On Day 1, the stump mic recorded Joshua saying, "My mum called and told me she's coming to watch the match for Virat Kohli, I couldn't believe it."
Da Silva's mother had the opportunity to meet Kohli on Friday when he stepped out of the team bus. She gave Kohli a joyful hug and congratulated him on his victory. She also clicked pictures with him while Da Silva was watching from the sidelines.
"I found it funny when My told me that she has come to see Virat and not me. That so happened that he was on the bus, and my mother had said that he might be there. He came to see my mother when I went and knocked on the window. He made her day, possibly her year," Joshua said in a video posted by BCCI.
In the video, Virat is seen smiling as he greets Joshua, and his mother can be seen visibly thrilled to run into her favourite cricketer.
After India faltered in the middle of the first day, falling to 182 for four, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja established a crucial 159-run fifth-wicket partnership on Day 2. This partnership helped India regain the upper hand.
"This was an opportunity for me to stand up for the team, and these are the kinds of situations when I engage," said Kohli.
He pointed out, "The statistics and milestones and all of that are for others to talk about."
