KKR is to face RCB in their second IPL 2023 match on April 6...

Digital Desk: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced their signing of England opener Jason Roy for the upcoming TATA IPL 2023 tournament. This move comes in light of KKR's captain Shreyas Iyer's unfortunate withdrawal from the tournament due to a back injury, as well as the pullout of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan citing personal and national commitments.

Roy, who previously played for Gujarat Lions in the 2017 edition of the IPL, has been signed by KKR for a price of Rs 2.8 crore, which is significantly higher than his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. The 32-year-old batter last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 IPL season, where he scored 150 runs, including a half-century, in five games.

As his experience and skill as an opener will undoubtedly prove to be a valuable addition to KKR's roster. He has played 64 T20Is for England, scoring 1,522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 with eight fifties.

While he will not feature in KKR's upcoming home match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he will be available for selection in the team's next match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 9. The purple brigade is likely to replace Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz with Roy, as they already have N Jagadeesan to don the gloves.

KKR, a two-time IPL champion, was dealt a huge blow when Iyer was ruled out for the entire season due to his back injury. The team will undoubtedly be looking to make up for this setback with the addition of Roy to their lineup.

However, KKR's signing of Jason Roy is a promising development for the team as they strive to secure their third IPL title. Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting Roy's debut with the purple brigade and the impact he will have on the team's performance
