KL Rahul donates Rs 31 lakh for 11-year-old's bone marrow transplant
Digital Desk: KL Rahul, the Indian opener, has come to help an 11-year-old aspiring cricketer who needs a bone marrow transplant (BMT) to handle a rare blood disease.

Varad, a Mumbai student who wants to wear an India cricket jersey, has been under the care of hematologists at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital since September 2021.

Varad's parents, insurance agent Sachin Nalawade and homemaker Swapna Jha, launched a fundraising campaign on GiveIndia in December to raise the Rs 35 lakh they needed to pay for their son's treatment.

As soon as they found out about Varad, Rahul's team contacted them. Rahul generously gave Rs 31 lakh toward the procedure's total cost of Rs 35 lakh. As a result, Varad underwent surgery and is presently recovering.

"When I learned about Varad's predicament, I immediately contacted GiveIndia to see what we could do to assist him. I'm delighted the operation went well and that he's doing well. I hope Varad gets back on his feet as soon as possible and achieves his goals. Furthermore, I hope that my contribution encourages more individuals to step forward and assist those in need "in a press release, Rahul was quoted as saying.

After being diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare blood ailment, the fifth-grader has been under the care of hematologists at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital since September 2021.

Varad's blood platelet counts were exceedingly low, leaving his immune system vulnerable to infection. Even a simple fever could take months to heal. Varad's illness could only be cured permanently with a bone marrow transplant.

Varad's father had to liquidate his provident fund resources to pay for Varad's rising medical expenditures to keep his son's ambition of becoming a cricketer alive. To cheer Varad up and offer the eager young player some hope, he purchased his son a nice cricket bat for his 11th birthday.

With folded hands, his mother Swapna sat next to a happy Varad and said: "We are grateful to KL Rahul for his generous donation towards Varad's surgery. It would have been impossible for him to complete the bone marrow transplant in such a short time. Thank you very much, Rahul."
