During the pre-match press conference, captain Kusal Mendis was unexpectedly asked about Virat Kohli's 49th century, which surprised him.
Digital Desk: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will face off in a match for survival in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup On Monday in Delhi. Bangladesh will be trying to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy, while Sri Lanka is still in the running to advance to the semi-finals. After suffering a crushing 302-run loss to India, Sri Lanka will need to bounce back quickly. However, during the pre-match press conference, captain Kusal Mendis was unexpectedly asked about Virat Kohli's 49th century, which surprised him.
It's not the first time a strange question has been posed by a journalist during the current World Cup; earlier in the tournament, Mendis was asked one, and Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler had to deal with another one. Following Kohli's historic 49th ODI century against South Africa on Sunday, November 5, the journalist felt it was appropriate to question Mendis about the same.
"Virat Kohli reached his 49th century in one-day cricket. Would you like to give him my congratulations?" the reporter asked. To which Mendis came up with an apt response, "Why would I congratulate him?" The video has gone viral.
Social media users slammed the reporter for his poor line of questioning, as to why would he ask about a different team instead of Sri Lanka or their game in Delhi given the poor air quality.
Bangladesh will have a better chance of finishing in the Top 8 and qualifying for the Champions Trophy 2025 if Sri Lanka loses today. Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan, described their World Cup campaign as their worst ever, as they have already been eliminated after six losses.
