Digital Desk: Lovlina Borgohain of India won her first World Championships gold medal on Sunday, March 26 in New Delhi. In a close-fought 75kg final bout at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist defeated Australia's Caitlin Parker via split decision.

Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019, overcame the disappointment of losing in the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games last year to triumph in New Delhi.

Lovlina secured India's fourth medal at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, all of which were gold. Nikhat Zareen won her second World Championships gold medal earlier in the day, dominating the 50kg final. On Saturday in New Delhi, Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora won gold medals in their respective weight categories.

Lovlina competed in a hard-fought final against two-time Commonwealth Games champion Caitlin Parker. The young Indian boxer made good use of her height, and her confidence in her game after defeating Li Qian of China in the semi-finals was evident in the opening round, which she won 3-2.

Parker, on the other hand, did not give up, fighting back in the second round and winning by split decision.

With everything on the line, both boxers went all out in the final round. Despite being under immense pressure in the final round, Lovlina punched and swayed away with precision.

The bout was eventually reviewed, and Lovlina won the Gold by a split decision.
