MS Dhoni signs autograph on Sunil Gavaskar's shirt during CSK's Lap of Honour at Chepauk; Watch

The incident happened after the conclusion of the game as CSK was taking a lap of honour for Chepauk in front of a crowded stadium as this was CSK's final home league stage match of the year.

Digital Desk: Two Indian cricket legends came together in what is likely the most touching moment of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) when MS Dhoni signed Sunil Gavaskar's shirt at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai after the conclusion of the match between the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The incident happened after the conclusion of the game as CSK was taking a lap of honour for Chepauk in front of a crowded stadium as this was CSK's final home league stage match of the year. Although Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are slated to take place there, CSK has not yet confirmed a playoff spot.

Gavaskar was participating in a post-game programme with the presenter when he suddenly rushed away from the camera as he saw Dhoni approaching. Gavaskar asked Dhoni to comply, and the duo shared a warm embrace later on.

    Gavaskar Makes a Pen Revelation

Gavaskar admitted that when he learned about CSK's preparations for a lap of honour, he had borrowed a pen before returning to assume his role as an expert panellist. Dhoni received praise from the legendary Indian cricketer for his contributions to Indian cricket.

"Who doesn't love him? Over the years, he has accomplished incredible things for Indian cricket. The fact that he served as a role model is what matters most. He is so revered by children. I appreciate you letting me borrow your pen. As soon as I heard they were going on a lap, I kept it with me," he added.

This might be Dhoni's final game at Chepauk if CSK fails to make the playoffs. The first qualifying round and final are both set to take place in Chennai, and the four-time champions will be hoping that MS Dhoni can return to the stadium for one more game.

Although Dhoni has not yet decided his future, many believe that 2023 will be his final season. The 41-year-old has been dealing with a knee ailment during the current season, which was evident during the lap as his knee was severely bandaged, and also had an ice pack.
