The squad just accomplished an incredible feat by shattering the record for most runs scored in an IPL innings.
Digital Desk: CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket Ashley de Silva announced on Sunday that ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the 2024 Indian Premier League season with a left heel injury. After being released by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Hasaranga was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a base fee of INR 1.5 crore at the December auction.
Though it was first thought that Hasaranga would only be sidelined for "at least a week," it seems that the injury is more serious than first thought. Though Hasaranga played through a lot of pain, a report from ESPNcricinfo stated that he recently took part in Sri Lanka's white-ball series against Bangladesh.
Hasaranga claimed eight wickets in six limited-overs matches that he participated in. Two of these wickets were taken in the T20Is, while the other six were claimed throughout the ODI series.
"He needs to do some rehabilitation after seeing the podiatrist, thus he is not participating in the IPL. His heel is swollen, and he's been experimenting with injections. Thus, he notified us of his choice to miss the IPL this year and made the decision to resolve this before the World Cup," said Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka, in an interview with The Sunday Times.
De Silva's disclosure is unexpected because Hasaranga's manager had told Cricbuzz earlier this week that the player would be joining SRH "sooner rather than later."
His manager had added, "All I can say is he will join the team."
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a strong start to the season even without their best spinner. Despite losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders to start the season, the SRH turned up a terrific performance, barely missing the mark by 4 runs in a tough 209-run chase.
The squad just accomplished an incredible feat by shattering the record for most runs scored in an IPL innings. They defeated the Mumbai Indians by 31 runs after scoring an astounding 277/3 in 20 overs.
