Digital Desk: Star pacer Mohammed Shami will not play in the IPL 17, which is a major setback for the Gujarat Titans ahead of their opening matchup with the Chennai Super Kings on March 22. This information comes from a BCCI source. The BCCI official reportedly informed the news agency PTI that Shami would require immediate surgery due to an ankle ailment. According to reports, the 33-year-old would have the procedure done in the UK.
Shami last appeared for India on November 19, 2018, at the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. According to the BCCI source, who has chosen not to be identified by the PTI, Shami visited London in January. He was in the UK capital to receive a specialized injection that would enable him to participate in the Indian Premier League three weeks from now.
However according to medical professionals, Shami is still without relief from the injection, and a big procedure is now the only course of action. The pace bowler is scheduled to depart India shortly, therefore it is not possible for him to play in the IPL at this time.
Honoured with the Arjuna Award, Md Shami has played 195 ODIs, and 229 Tests in his career spanning over 10 years.
