Digital Desk: After his outstanding performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka, India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has moved up rapidly in the ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers. Siraj made his way from ninth to the top spot in the latest International Cricket Council rankings, which were released on Wednesday, September 20.

Mohammed Siraj had 637 points prior to the Asia Cup final and has now secured the top spot in the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings with 694 points. He has 16 more points than Josh Hazlewood, who was dethroned from first place and is now ranked second in the bowling rankings.

Mohammed Siraj delivered a stunning performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final versus Sri Lanka on September 17 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Siraj took six wickets in seven overs, finishing with figures of 6 for 21 in the final. Siraj's session assisted India in bowling out Sri Lanka for 50, the lowest score in an ODI competition final.

Siraj became the third bowler, following Lasith Malinga and Chaminda Vaas, to take four wickets in one over. His overall performance of 6 for 21 was also the fourth-best by an Indian bowler in ODIs.

It is Siraj's second time being No. 1 in the ODI rankings, having held the position in January 2023 following a strong performance against Sri Lanka at home.

Siraj concluded Asia Cup 2023 with 10 wickets, one fewer than Matheesha Pathirana, who topped the bowling rankings.
