Morocco Fans engaged in a brawl with Police in Brussels after Defeat in World Cup Semi-final Vs France

Digital Desk: Following Morocco's 0-2 loss to France in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 semifinal, there were severe disturbances. After France went to the FIFA World Cup final, videos of football supporters fighting in the streets of a few cities in France and Belgium have gone viral on social media. In the videos, people can be seen climbing a monument while holding red flares, while pyrotechnics and flares can be seen being thrown over Montpellier, France.

Another video from Brussels shows minor fires beginning on a street in the heart of the city. The French flag was taken down from a man's balcony in the same video as Moroccan flags began throwing rocks at his windows. Another heartbreaking video from Montpellier shows a car ploughing into a mob of Moroccan fans who were purportedly trying to steal a French flag while they were rioting. According to reports, Avignon was also the scene of violence and damage following Morocco's defeat.

Given that the event had political and emotional relevance for both countries, it is important to note that riot police were widely deployed throughout many cities, including Paris. However, Moroccan fans have been implicated in disturbances following games during this World Cup. After their country's national team defeated Portugal in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal, Moroccan fans previously caused a commotion on the streets of Paris. Wednesday evening Theo Hernandez opened the scoring for France in the fifth minute, and Randal Kolo Muani's goal in the 79th minute gave the defending champions a 2-0 advantage and guaranteed their place against Argentina in the World Cup final.
