Kishore Kumar Jena won the silver medal for India by throwing a personal best of 87.54 metres in addition to qualifying for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Digital Desk: With a throw of 88.8 metres on Wednesday in Hangzhou, China, Neeraj Chopra successfully defended his title and won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023.
Kishore Kumar Jena won the silver medal for India by throwing a personal best of 87.54 metres in addition to qualifying for the Paris Olympics in 2024. Jena narrowly overtook Chopra to take the top spot in the rankings, but the defending Olympic champion recovered with a stunning throw to win his second straight gold medal at the Asian Games and reclaim the position.
Due to a technical issue, Chopra's first throw, which landed between 80 and 85 metres, could not be recorded. He got off to a poor start, and one of his throws even missed the 80-meter mark. The athlete soon recovered his confidence and threw with excellent technique and force to add a further feather to his already illustrious career.
Chopra entered the Asian Games with a modest defeat in the September Diamond League finals in Eugene. With a best throw of 83.80 metres, he had placed second in the Diamond League champion's competition.
Chopra, who took home a gold medal from the World Athletics Championships last month, was surprised by the windy conditions in the Hayward Field final. It was his first throw this season under 85 metres. At position three, he had earned a spot in the Diamond League Finals.
With a throw of 88.44 metres, he won the Diamond League Finals in Zurich in 2022. With his sixth and final try, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic won the Diamond League title for the third time with a best throw of 84.24 metres.
