Digital Desk: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently made headlines by becoming the youngest-ever president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This historic achievement will bring significant changes to the horizon, as Shah will eventually need to step down from his roles as BCCI Secretary and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

According to a report by news agency PTI, Shah’s departure from the ACC role may see the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Mohsin Naqvi stepping into the position. The report suggests that Naqvi could be appointed as the ACC president following the Council's meeting scheduled for October-November, with his two-year term set to commence in 2025. An anonymous source quoted by PTI mentioned, “When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term… When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over.”

Shah has led the ACC for the past four years, including an extension beyond his original three-year term. The speculation regarding his successor at the BCCI has centered on Rohan Jaitley, son of the late politician Arun Jaitley, who is currently a leading candidate.

As Naqvi prepares to assume the ACC presidency, he will oversee the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in India. Additionally, in his capacity as both PCB and ACC chief, Naqvi will play a crucial role in the Champions Trophy 2025, hosted in Pakistan. His tenure will also be pivotal in shaping the future of the ACC, including the successful organization of upcoming tournaments and fostering consensus among member nations.

Naqvi, who succeeded Ramiz Raja as PCB Chairman in 2024 and has also served as Pakistan’s Interior Minister since March 2024, will likely focus on enhancing cricketing relations between India and Pakistan. His leadership aims to facilitate international matches, including bringing the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for future tournaments.
