Digital Desk: The slap gate scandal rocked the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 on Monday when Lahore Qalandars pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam for dropping a catch during a crucial match against Peshawar Zalmi.
Reportedly, the incident took place when Rauf dismissed Mohammad Haris of Peshawar Zalmi in the second over of the game, and the Pakistan pacer hit Ghulam while celebrating the wicket. Earlier, in the same over, Ghulam had fumbled Hazratullah Zazai’s catch, for which Rauf was furious with the fielder.
But even after being hit by his fellow teammate, Ghulam kept a brave smile on his face, whereas Rauf’s reactions didn’t look friendly. Due to his rude behaviour, Haris incurred the anger of the fans.
On Monday, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League’s first super over. Lahore Qalandars finished with 158-8, tying Peshawar’s total of 158-7, thanks to captain Shaheen Shah Afridi’s 23 off the final normal over.
Wahab Riaz, Peshawar’s skipper, ceded only five runs in a tidy super over, and veteran Shoaib Malik won the game by slamming two consecutive boundaries off Shahid Afridi’s first two deliveries. Both teams finished with 12 points in the group stage, but Lahore came in second due to a higher net run rate than Peshawar.
On Wednesday, Lahore will face league leaders Multan Sultans for a spot in the final, while Peshawar will face Islamabad United in an eliminator on Thursday. The loser of the Multan-Lahore match will meet the victor of the eliminator on Friday for a chance to play in the final on Sunday.
