Lovlina Borgohain is on the brink of making history, potentially joining the ranks of PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker with another Olympic medal.
Digital Desk: Day 8 brought some disappointment, with Manu Bhaker, Deepika Kumari, and Nishant Dev narrowly missing out on medals at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, Day 9 promises excitement and action-packed events. On August 4, Sunday, the Indian men’s hockey team will face Great Britain in a crucial quarter-final match. Rising badminton star Lakshya Sen is just one win away from securing a medal, as he competes in the semi-finals of the men’s singles. Additionally, Lovlina Borgohain will aim to advance toward her second Olympic medal.
Indian fans can expect a thrilling Super Sunday as the contingent strives to increase India’s current medal count of 3. Alongside these high-profile matches, other Indian athletes will also be in action. Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shubhankar Sharma will compete in the men’s individual strokeplay in golf. It will also be the second day of women’s skeet qualification and the qualification round for the 25m men’s pistol event. Indian athletes will also look to excel in Long Jump, Steeplechase, and Sailing.
Lovlina Borgohain
Lovlina Borgohain is on the brink of making history, potentially joining the ranks of PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker with another Olympic medal. She previously achieved this feat at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Borgohain will face China’s Li Qian, the top-seeded boxer, who defeated her 5-0 in the Asian Games final last year.
Lakshya Sen
Lakshya Sen remains India’s sole medal hopeful in badminton. The 22-year-old has performed admirably to reach the men’s singles semi-finals. However, he faces a formidable opponent in Danish star Viktor Axelsen, a former World No. 1. Sen made history by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen to reach this stage.
Indian Hockey Team
The Indian men’s hockey team will play against Great Britain in the quarter-finals at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes. India aims for a repeat of their Tokyo 2020 success when they defeated Great Britain 3-1 to win bronze. With Captain Harmanpreet Singh in stellar form, having scored six goals and currently being the second-highest scorer, India hopes to add to their 12-medal tally.
