Digital Desk: The Rajasthan Sports Council has officially sealed the Sawai Man Singh Stadium one month ahead of the Indian Premier League matches. The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), the state cricket organization, was accused by the council of not fulfilling its duties, which included paying any unpaid bills.

The Rajasthan Sports Council had the authority to seal the stadium, the RCA's office, and its academy. The land must be transferred to the state council, according to a notice sent by council secretary Sohan Ram Choudhary to the RCA on Friday. However this transfer never happened, the state sports council sealed the properties as a result of the RCA's purported failure to comply with the terms specified in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and refusal to pay unpaid fees.

Choudhary explained, 'We had sent them (RCA) numerous notices, but there was no reply from their end. They only replied to increase the MoU to 10 years (from eight years). They had liabilities and they did not fulfill them.'

He added, "We have met with RCA to identify a solution. They told us they weren't given the full amount, but they had received about Rs 200 crores. They had a lot of money during the Rajasthan Premier League, but we had to take this action since they broke the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding and failed to deposit the money."

Choudhary promised that all scheduled games, including IPL matches, will continue to take place at the location despite the closure. He reaffirmed the council's takeover of the premises and the guarantee that IPL and other national and international events would go on as scheduled, providing players with all the facilities they needed.

President of the RCA Vaibhav Gehlot responded, saying that the action appeared to be politically driven and criticizing the short amount of time allotted for a reply. Gehlot said, "The old case shows political malice, as the sudden sealing of Rs 8 crore in outstanding dues is due before the IPL. It was not appropriate for this to occur. We were not given full time, the time given was less than two days, there should not be politics in sports but politics is happening which is not right."

Gehlot said that in order to decide what to do in this situation, the RCA would speak with its lawyer. The home team Rajasthan Royals will play their first game at Sawai Man Singh Stadium on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants. Their second game is set for March 28 against Delhi Capitals. The 2024 Indian Premier League calendar was limited to the first two weeks and 21 matches because of the approaching general elections.
