Rohit Sharma appointed Test captain for upcoming Sri Lanka series
Digital Desk: On Saturday, Virat Kohli was replaced as India's new Test captain and Rohit Sharma hold control of the team. Having been named the Test vice-captain prior to the recently concluded South Africa series, Rohit was considered the frontrunner. He was unable to participate in the tour due to a hamstring injury.

A day after India lost the Test series against South Africa 2-1 with a seven-wicket defeat in Cape Town, Kohli resigned as captain of the Test team with immediate effect.

MS Dhoni announced his retirement in Australia in early 2015, and he ended up being India's most successful Test captain.

Also in December, Rohit was appointed India's ODI captain, ending Kohli's five-year reign.

Since then, he has led India to a T20 series win over New Zealand and is currently leading India to a 3-0 win over West Indies in an ODI series in Ahmedabad. The T20I leg of the series in Kolkata was won by India by an unassailable 2-0 score.
