Dhawan further stated that if he ever considered marriage again, he would use the lessons he learned from his previous experiences to guide his decisions.
Digital Desk: Although Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan is no longer a member of the national team, he is happy with his achievements and his position in the race for a spot on the Men in Blue. Despite having captained the Indian teams in various series, Dhawan has been going through a rough patch off the pitch due to his divorce from his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee.
Dhawan has finally opened up about his failed marriage and the lessons he has learned after several months.
After falling in love, Dhawan married Melbourne-based amateur kickboxer Aesha Mukherji in 2012. Ayesha, who is 12 years Dhawan's senior, has two daughters from her first marriage. Dhawan and Aesha married in 2014 and had a son, Zorawar, before separating in September 2021.
Dhawan humbly admitted to his failure and accepted full responsibility for it during an interview with Aaj Tak. He stated that the ultimate decision is made by the individual and that he does not believe in blaming others for his shortcomings.
"I failed because the final decision is made by the individual. I never point the finger at others. I failed because I was unfamiliar with that field. Things I talk about in cricket today I would not have known about 20 years ago. It comes with experience, "Dhawan stated.
Dhawan further stated that if he ever considered marriage again, he would use the lessons he learned from his previous experiences to guide his decisions.
"Right now, my divorce is proceeding. If I want to marry again tomorrow, I will be much wiser in that regard. "I'll know what kind of girl I want; someone with whom I can spend my life," he explained. "I wasn't in a relationship when I was 26-27 and constantly playing." I used to have a good time, but I was never in a relationship.
"As a result, when I fell in love, I couldn't see the red flags." However, if I fall in love today, I will be able to spot those red flags. So, if I see those red flags, I'm going to leave. If not, I will continue," he added.
Dhawan, who will make his full-time captaincy debut in the Indian Premier League in 2023, will captain the Punjab Kings. Dhawan is well-equipped to take on this leadership role and lead his team to victory as a seasoned player with a wealth of experience.
