Shreyas Iyer becomes India's top run-scorer across formats in 2022, surpasses Suryakumar, Virat

Digital Desk: At the end of Day 1 of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh, Shreyas Iyer scored 82* in the first innings as the Indian team reached 278/6 in 90 overs. Cheteshwar Pujara scored an important 90 runs and put together a record-breaking 149-run stand for the fifth wicket when India lost four wickets for only 112 runs.

Iyer had 82 runs off 169 balls when Pujara was removed for 90 runs by Taijul Islam in the 85th over. Iyer, who is presently ranked first in India for all-format scores in 2022, has been in outstanding form recently. By amassing 1489 runs in 38 innings across all formats in 2022, he has already passed Suryakumar Yadav in the rankings.

Iyer scored 724 runs from 15 ODI innings in 2022, scoring at a strike rate of 91.52 and an average of 55.69 thanks to six scores of fifty or more. Iyer, who is nearly at 100 in the test match, has earned a position in the Test lineup. He has scored 302 runs at an average of 60.40, including three fifty-plus scores, in just six innings of international red-ball cricket in 2022.

The 28-year-old batsman is no longer a regular member of India's T20I team because he was not chosen for the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. With an average of 35.61 and a strike rate of 141.15 from 17 T20I innings in 2022, he manage to score 463 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 1164 runs from 31 innings to lead India in T20Is this year, struggled to make an impact in ODIs. He scored just 260 runs from 12 ODIs in 2022, averaging 26.00 and hitting one fifty. Iyer now takes the lead by 65 runs and is expected to end 2022 as India's best overall run-scorer.

Virat Kohli is at the no. 3 with 1304 runs in 39 innings with the best score of 122. The wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is ranked fourth with 1278 runs in 41 innings and the best score of 146, and Rohit Sharma is ranked fifth with 995 runs in 40 innings and a high score of 76*.
