Digital Desk: The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow turned into an unfavourable start for the home team after skipper KL Rahul suffered what seemed to be a serious hamstring injury.

Rahul ran the length of the pitch to stop a boundary after Faf du Plessis' cover drive on the last ball of the second over. However, Rahul stopped running in the middle and was seen in pain. The LSG medical staff immediately rushed to Rahul.

Rahul was taken away from the field after a few minutes of examination. While the support staff called for a stretcher, Rahul was able to walk back to his dressing room on his own. The injury will not only be a major issue for LSG, but also for Team India, with only a month till the crucial 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.

In Rahul's absence, Krunal Pandya leads LSG as they look for their sixth win of the season and to tie defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat Titans on points. LSG currently sits second in the table with five victories and three defeats.

It remains to be known whether Rahul will step out to bat alongside his opening partner, Kyle Mayers. If Rahul fails to bat, LSG has the choice of replacing him with an impact player. However, they will most likely be without an expert batsman for the chase.

India will be hoping that Rahul's injury is not serious, given they are already missing Rishbabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah for the big game. With only one experienced gloveman (KS Bharat) in the Rohit Sharma-led team's 15-man team, Rahul is a candidate for keeping wickets.
