Smriti Mandhana likely to lead RCB in Inaugural Women’s Premier League
Mike Hesson, the director of cricket operations for RCB, made a suggestion that Mandhana, who has captained India in a few games, might lead the side in the WPL.

Digital Desk: The India opener, Smriti Mandhana was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.4 crore, making her the most expensive player in the first Women's Premier League (WPL) auction.

On February 13, Mandhana was the first player to be auctioned at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. Mandhana's base price was INR 50 lakhs, and the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore engaged in a bidding war for her. She was eventually taken from the marquee set by RCB.

Mike Hesson, the director of cricket operations for RCB, made a suggestion that Mandhana, who has captained India in a few games, might lead the side in the WPL.

"Smriti has extensive experience serving as a captain. She is an Indian player and is familiar with the circumstances "Hesson stated at a press conference. "As a result, I believe it to be very feasible, but I suppose that in a leadership group, you need senior players nearby to support you. We have three international players with extensive expertise."

Mandhana exclaimed her joy at joining the RCB, saying "I believe they say, "Namaskara Bengaluru," and they are enthusiastic about donning the colour red and going out to compete for the cup. We appreciate all of the support from the crowd, and we'll work to make this tournament amazing."

"I think we've been watching men's auctions for the past ten years, and it was just great because I used to be riveted to men's auctions whenever they used to happen. For us to hold an auction of this kind, there has to be such a strong momentum for women's cricket as well. First the WPL declaration, then this auction, I think this is history," Mandhana said to Sports 18.

"I find the entire thing intriguing, and I believe we are in for an amazing period of time. I believe that RCB has a very high legacy because they have a very large fan base and have been around for the past ten years in the men's IPL.

"So, yeah, I'm really excited to be a part of such a large franchise, and I hope we can both create a wonderful team together. I believe I'm genuinely thrilled to be a part of RCB."
