Tokyo: Hopes dashed after the Indian Men's Hockey team had to face defeat in the hands of the Belgians during their match today. After conquering the field after 49 years, the Men's hockey team was hopeful of entering the finals as they took the lead in the match.
Indian men’s hockey team took the lead after conceding the first goal early against Belgium. Harmanpreet converted a penalty and Mandeep scored in the first quarter. But Belgium bounced back strong in the 2nd quarter by getting as many as four penalty shots within few minutes.
The third quarter was a different affair as neither of the teams getting many opportunities but India not being able to prevent penalty corners cost them the match in the final 15 minutes. Alexander Hendrickx scored a remarkable hat-trick for Belgium.
India will now play Australia or Germany in the bronze medal match.
