Vegetarian Virat Kohli's "Chicken Tikka" post stuns Social Media; Know the truth
Virat posted an Instagram story showing him eating "mock chicken tikka," which is made of plants and not animals.

Digital Desk: India's star batter turned a vegetarian a few years ago. Many found it puzzling that the man who had formerly liked butter chicken was now turning to vegan options, even for his protein needs. However, Kohli had his reasons, and he even explained how quitting non-vegetarian food enabled him to reach a new level of fitness. But many followers were left confused when Virat shared a story on Instagram stating to have consumed "mock chicken tikka." But there's another side to the story that some fans didn't understand.

Virat revealed a few years earlier that he had quit being non-vegetarian due to a cervical spine problem. This was one of the biggest dietary adjustments he had to make since his body was producing way too much uric acid.

Virat posted an Instagram story showing him eating "mock chicken tikka," which is made of plants and not animals. Hence, it remains a vegetarian dish.

'Mock Chicken Tikka': what is it?

In contrast to the traditional "Chicken Tikka," a mock version of the dish isn't genuinely cooked with chicken. Instead, soy is used. Many soy-based vegetarian substitutes for chicken and meat items have been introduced over time.

People sometimes have a hard time telling one food item from the other because of its flavours and textures. However, the "mock" chicken products are made purely of soy.

What caused Virat Kohli to become a vegetarian?

"Stopped consuming meat just before the England Test series. I experienced a cervical spine problem during a test match in South Africa in 2018. It compressed a nerve that was running straight to the little finger of my right hand. It gave me a tingling sensation and I could barely feel my little finger. I could not sleep at night and it was hurting like mad," Kohli said in the Instagram Live session back in 2020.

"Then I got my tests done and my stomach was too acidic and my body was too acidic, creating too much uric acid. Even though I was taking calcium and magnesium, everything but one tablet was not sufficient for my body to function properly. So, my stomach started pulling calcium from my bones and my bones got weaker. That is why I stopped eating meat completely in the middle of England tour to cut down the uric acid and I have never felt better in my life, to be honest," he added.
Virat even revealed that he felt more energetic after making the choice, which significantly altered his life.

"I felt amazing, it is almost two years now and it is the best decision I have taken... it made me feel why I didn't do it before," he stated.
