Digital Desk: The ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport has once again postponed its decision on Vinesh Phogat's appeal against her disqualification from the Olympic finals, now extending the wait until August 16. This delay continues the uncertainty for the Indian wrestler.
The 29-year-old Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg freestyle final due to being 100 grams overweight during last Wednesday's weigh-in.
According to an IOA release, "The CAS ad hoc division president has granted Hon. Dr. Annabelle Bennett, Sole Arbitrator in the case of Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), an extension until 6:00 p.m. Paris time on Friday, August 16, 2024."
In her appeal, Vinesh is seeking to be awarded a joint silver medal with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who, after losing to Phogat in the semifinals, was promoted to the final due to Phogat's disqualification.
