Record Breaker! Virat Kohli becomes first player to hit 8000 runs in IPL history during RR vs RCB match

It's worth noting that no other player has even crossed the 7,000-run mark in the IPL. Kohli's current season has been his second most prolific, with over 700 runs, second only to his legendary 2016 performance when he amassed 973 runs.

Digital Desk: Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli etched his name in IPL history books by becoming the first batsman to reach the milestone of 8,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. This landmark achievement was attained during the 2024 IPL Eliminator clash against RR in Ahmedabad, where Kohli notched his 29th run. Despite a promising start, Kohli's innings was curtailed at 33 runs off 24 deliveries by Yuzvendra Chahal in the eighth over, as he attempted a slog-sweep against the leg-spinner.

It's worth noting that no other player has even crossed the 7,000-run mark in the IPL. Kohli's current season has been his second most prolific, with over 700 runs, second only to his legendary 2016 performance when he amassed 973 runs. In the 2024 season, he has registered one century and five fifties. His exceptional form with the bat has been pivotal in RCB's resurgence, propelling them to the playoffs, and he currently holds the coveted Orange Cap.

Kohli's IPL career boasts an impressive record of 8 centuries and 55 fifties. In the recent encounter against CSK, he also notched another milestone by becoming the first IPL batsman to amass 3,000 runs at a single venue across 17 editions.

Kohli's IPL journey started on April 18, 2008, when he made his debut for RCB against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, albeit with a modest score of one run. With 86 innings under his belt at the stadium, he has accumulated 22 fifties and four hundreds, including a high score of 113. His tally at the Chinnaswamy Stadium extends to over 3400 runs, which also includes 116 runs in eight T20Is for India since 2012. Kohli's four centuries at a single venue stand as a testament to his batting prowess, placing him second only to Chris Gayle, who boasts five hundred at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

In the match, RR won the toss and elected to bowl first, welcoming Shimron Hetmyer back into their side. On the other hand, RCB maintained an unchanged playing XI from their previous outing.
