The BCCI representative also mentioned that Kohli had three or four productive training sessions before leaving for his trip to London on December 19.

Digital Desk: Veteran right-handed batter Virat Kohli has rejoined the Indian cricket team to begin preparations for the first test match against South Africa. The Centurion will host the Boxing Day test match on Tuesday, December 26. On January 3, 2024, the second and final game will take place in Capetown.

The 35-year-old Kohli was reportedly forced to depart South Africa owing to an emergency, however, sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have revealed that Kohli was on a pre-planned London trip and is back in South Africa.

The travel schedule was known to the Indian team management and the BCCI, though, and Kohli was never going to participate in the intrasquad match scheduled for Pretoria from December 20 to December 22.

“Virat Kohli wasn’t going to play that game. His strategy and schedule were known to the team management, and it wasn't something that came suddenly or as a result of a family situation. Look at this player—Virat Kohli, to be exact. He is quite well-organized when it comes to these matters, and news platform News18 was informed and prepared for his travel to London well in advance," according to a BCCI official.

The BCCI representative also mentioned that Kohli had three or four productive training sessions before leaving for his trip to London on December 19. On December 15, Kohli departed India for South Africa. Good three or four training sessions before his December 19 departure for London. He spent the next few days in London, where he has since connected with the Test team. It is almost certain that he will train in Centurion tomorrow.

Additionally, it is one of only three nations in which Kohli can claim an average above fifty, with only Australia and his own India surpassing his robust average of 51.35. Virat has amassed 719 runs overall—two hundreds and three fifties—in seven Test matches played in South Africa.

India lost a 2-1 series in the previous World Tennis Championship cycle the last time they visited South Africa.
