Digital Desk: Despite
Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) spectacular triumph and Delhi Capitals' dropping streak in the ongoing IPL 2023, the highlight of the Chinnaswamy encounter on Saturday was the exchange between Virat Kohli and DC's director of cricket Sourav Ganguly.
Following the match, two videos involving the two veterans of Indian cricket went viral, confirming that all is not well between the two. Kohli's newest social media activity, which occurred shortly after the match, confirmed it for supporters on Sunday.
In the 18th over of the match, when RCB needed one wicket to win against DC, Kohli was seen giving Ganguly a death stare from the Delhi dugout. It came just as RCB scored their second win in four matches, while Delhi hit a new low, losing all five games in the competition. In another footage that went viral, Ganguly was seen leaping the line after DC head coach Ricky Ponting had stopped Kohli while the two sides were shaking hands.
No one is aware of a conflict between the two, which dates back to October 2021. However, the two films reveal that neither has moved on from the incident. And Kohli's action on Instagram on Sunday confirmed the breach with Ganguly, as he unfollowed the former BCCI president while the latter continued to follow.
In October 2021, only days after stepping down as T20I captain, Kohli was stripped of the ODI captaincy as well, sparking a battle of words between the India star and
Ganguly, who claimed that the BCCI had not notified him of the decision. The incident caused quite a commotion in world cricket, finally leading to Kohli quitting his status as Test captain in January 2022.
Since then, neither of the two has commented publicly about the incident, leaving the whole tale of a rift to rumours.
