Virat Kohli steps down as Test captain
Digital Desk: Virat Kohli stepped down as the Test captain after playing the series defeat against South Africa on Saturday.

The Indian cricketer Virat Kohli took to his Twitter to announce the news. He had taken over the responsibility in 2014. As a result, Kohli stepped down from the post as India's most successful Test captain.

Kohli led India in 68 contests and has been the most thriving captain with 40 victories.

"It's been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. I've done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. But, everything has to come to a halt at some stage, and for me as Test Captain of India, it's now," Kholi said in his post.

Virat Kohli further added, "I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity t lead my country for such a long period and, more importantly, to all the teammates who bought into th vision I had for the team from day one never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey s memorable and beautiful. Also, to Ravi Bhai and the support group who was the engine behind this vehicle that consistently moved us upwards in Test Cricket, you all have played a massive role in bringing this vision to life."

He also thanked MS Dhoni for his guidance. Virat Kholi wrote, "Lastly, a big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a Captain. And found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward."

Virat Kohli's decision arrives months after he quit the T20I captaincy. He was sacked as India's ODI captain before India left for South Africa earlier this year.
