Digital Desk: Former India opener Virender Sehwag has slammed Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag for a string of poor performances in the IPL 2023. The emerging player has struggled to get going in four matches, scoring only 39 runs. Furthermore, Sehwag is irritated by Parag's disposal style, in which he often gives his wicket away.

Even against the Gujarat Titans the other night, when the risks were high, Parag was expected to bail his team out, but he failed yet again in the chase, increasing the burden on the batter to come. Shimron Hetmyer's unbeaten 50 and support from the lower order, which included Dhruv Jurel and R Ashwin, ensured RR crossed the line with three wickets.

Commenting about such errors and where they could lead Parag in this tournament, Sehwag said he hasn't lived up to the franchise's faith in him. He added that it's disheartening for others waiting outside for their turn to see someone who hasn't consistently performed getting regular chances.

"It is natural for the players who are sitting outside to wonder, 'What have we done wrong to not get these many chances?'" Rajasthan management must be thinking about how long they should support Riyan Parag. If he wants to play for India, this is the platform where he has to deliver, otherwise, he deserves to sit on the bench," Sehwag remarked during an interview with Cricbuzz.

If Parag fails to perform in another game, the dashing opener believes RR should look to the bench to see who can fill that role.

"They've had that trust in Riyan Parag for a long time, but he's just not lived up to it." They are still in a strong position and can afford to consider additional players on the bench. The more you back, the more unfair it will be for the players waiting in the wings. So this is their opportunity to see who else can fill that job," Sehwag stated.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals presently lead the points standings with four wins in five games. They will play the Lucknow Super Giants at Jaipur on April 19th.
