"I do feel a little disheartened, but my life motto is to move on. I'm used to it now... it's been three World Cups (laughs)," Chahal added with a smile.
Digital Desk: The renowned Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been left out of the ODI World Cup team once again. Chahal has found himself excluded from the World Cup for the third time in a row despite being one of the top Indian leg spinners in recent years. Before this, despite being chosen, he was left out of the UAE's 2021 T20 World Cup and did not play in any of the tournament's 2022 matches.
Chahal admitted that being dropped has been a recurring aspect of his cricket career in a conversation with English publication Wisden. He expressed his resignation to the situation. "I understand that only fifteen players can be a part of the squad because it's a World Cup, where you can't take 17 or 18," Chahal said.
"I do feel a little disheartened, but my life motto is to move on. I'm used to it now... it's been three World Cups (laughs)," Chahal added with a smile. In order to avoid being inactive, Chahal, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, chose to play County Cricket in England.
Chahal stated, "I wanted to be on the cricket pitch somehow, somewhere, so that's why I came here [to Kent] to play." "I'm getting a chance here with the red ball, and I'm genuinely eager to represent India in Test cricket. It has therefore been valuable for me," he added.
In their World Cup lineup, the Indian side has chosen three spinners: Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and R Ashwin, a late replacement for Axar Patel. Due to the unique qualities, Kuldeep is expected to be India's first choice among these.
Chahal acknowledged his happiness with playing in England's top division of cricket in reflection of his experience in County Cricket and emphasised his desire to play for India in Test cricket.
"I've spoken to the coaches as well, and they are happy that I'm actively playing somewhere since, despite how much you practice in the nets, nothing quite compares to the experience of a match. I'm acquiring invaluable experience here, playing at a high level - in the first division of County Cricket," Chahal said.
