Digital Desk : Tanush Kotian, a Mumbai offspin bowling all rounder has been picked as a replacement for R. Ashwin, who retired from international cricket after 3rd Test against Australia. The selection committee announced uncapped Tanush Kotian's name for the last two test matches of the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
Kotian is expected to fly to Australia on Tuesday to join the Indian squad. Before the maiden India call-up Tanush was busy playing for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
About Tanush's selection, captain Rohit Sharma said that he was the right option as Kuldeep Yadav is not fit and Axar is on a paternity leave. Rohit mentioned that Kotian had played a massive part in Mumbai's victorious 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign, scoring 502 runs and picking up 29 wickets which earned him the 'Player of the Tournament' award.
Mumbai's all-rounder Tansuh was part of the India A squad to Australia before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He played one match, scoring 44 runs and taking one wicket. The 26 year old cricketer has played 33 first class matches, taking 101 wickets and scoring 1525 runs in 47 innings with two centuries and 13 fifties.
The need for a third spinner in India squad arose after R Ashwin's shocking retirement. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are the other two spinners in the team. The Boxing Day test will kick off on December 26.
