Axar Patel selected as Ravindra Jadeja's substitute because of a knee injury that will keep him out of the competition for the rest of it.
Digital Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday that India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will miss the rest of the Asia Cup due to a right knee injury. Jadeja is now being monitored by the BCCI medical team.
The BCCI has picked Axar Patel to replace Jadeja for the remainder of the competition. Axar was previously identified as one of the squad's standby players and will shortly join the squad. Jadeja appeared in both of India's group stage games, against Pakistan and Hong Kong, respectively.
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked Axar Patel as Ravindra Jadeja's substitute in the present Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has a right knee ailment and will miss the competition. He is now being monitored by the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel, was already designated as one of the squad's standbys and will join the team in Dubai soon." The BCCI issued a statement.
Jadeja was the equal top-scorer with 35 against Pakistan, despite going wicketless. Jadeja grabbed one wicket against Hong Kong but did not have a chance to bat.
India will now face either Pakistan or Hong Kong in their first Super 4 encounter on Sunday, September 4.

Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan.
