    Gautam Gambhir expressed his desire to focus on his cricket commitments

    Digital desk: As the Lok Sabha election is knocking on the door and the first list of candidates has already come out, the BJP MP of East Delhi Gautam Gambhir, has decided to quit politics. Gautam Gambhir expressed his desire to focus on his cricket commitments, citing the need to redirect his attention to the sport he passionately played before politics.
    Gambhir joined the BJP in March 2019 and, since then has become a prominent face of the party in Delhi. He contested and won the East Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a substantial margin of 6,95,109 votes.

    Gambhir posted on X, "I have requested Hon'ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind."

    In November 2023, it was announced that Gautam Gambhir was asked to be a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders. As the 2007 T20 and 2011 ODD World Cup champion, he joined the Knight Riders in 2011 and was with the team till 2017. During the period, Knight Riders qualified for the IPL playoffs five times and also reached the final of the now-defunct Champions League T20 in 2014.
