Digital Desk: More than three years after making his debut in international cricket, Shubman Gill finally scored the first century of his international career. Gill reached the milestone during the ongoing third One-Day International (ODI) match between India and Zimbabwe at the Harare Cricket Ground.

Gill was again dropped to the number three spot when KL Rahul decided to bat first. However, the right-hander looked at ease in his new role and targeted the host bowling attack with ease. In just 82 balls, the 22-year-old hit the milestone.

During his innings, he put up a big 140-run stand with Ishan Kishan, putting India on track for a massive total after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Kishan made a half-century before being run out.

Gill made his international debut in an ODI against New Zealand in 2019. He had a remarkable record in ODI cricket before this match, scoring 369 runs in eight games at an impressive average of 61.50, including three half-centuries. In the third One-Day International between India and the West Indies that took place in Port of Spain last month, play was called off early due to rain, leaving him stuck on 98 not out.

The majority of Gill's notable successes in international cricket have been in Test matches. He has played 11 Tests since making his debut in the Boxing Day Test in 2020 against Australia, scoring four half-centuries. In the fourth innings of India's historic triumph at the Gabba, Gill notably scored 91 runs.

In terms of the match, India is expected to score close to 300 runs. With Dhawan scoring 40 runs and Rahul adding 30, the Men in Blue built a 63-run opening partnership. The first two games were won by India by scores of 10 and 5 wickets, respectively.
