Digital Desk: Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel guided India to clinch a 4-wicket victory over England in the first ODI match of the series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday. India is now on a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Winning the toss, England elected to bat first and put 248 runs in 47.4 overs after losing all the wickets. Openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett started the innings confidently and put in a 75-run partnership for the 1st wicket in just 53 balls. Skipper Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell scored half-centuries for the visitor side.

All-rounder Axar Patel surprised everyone when he entered the crease before KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya and performed brilliantly with an outstanding half-century. Gill, who missed out on a century by 13 runs, played a stunning knock of 87 runs off 96 balls and completed his half-century.
Shreyas Iyer dominated the England bowlers by smashing 59 runs off 39 balls. India's winning runs were gathered by Jadeja and Hardik Pandya remaining till the end of the match. However, India skipper Rohit Sharma continued his weak performance and scored just 2 runs.
Leading the England bowling, Saqib Mahmood and Adil Rashid picked two wickets each. With Virat Kohli ruled out of the first ODI with a knee injury on Wednesday evening, Harshit Rana and Yashavi Jaiswal made their memorable ODI debuts.
Both teams will lock their horns in Cuttack for the second ODI on February 9.
