Digital Desk: The district-level competitions of the second edition of Khel Maharan began in the Barpeta district with a star-studded opening ceremony on Monday. The mega ceremony was attended by several renowned personalities of sports and district officials. The list included veteran international swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika, boxer Pranjit Dutta, District
Commissioner of Barpeta Rohan Kumar Jha, CEO of Zilla Parishad Diganta Baishya, ACS, ADS (Sports) Geetashri Lachit, ACS and District Sports Officer Dhruba Deka among others.
The opening ceremony kicked off with a march past by NCC cadets, a band performance by St Mary's School of Barpeta Road, a cultural programme by Kalangan Barpeta, and flag hoisting by the DC of Barpeta. Five sports pensioners from Pradip Das, Biraj Oja, Indramohan Oja, Bajen Das, and Bhupen Das were also honored during the event.

future. He praised the state government's initiative and schemes to provide jobs to the sportspersons. He hoped that Assam would become the topmost sporting state in the country.
Boxer Pranjit Dutta in his speech said that Assam's sports culture is on positive side as parents are also involved in nurturing their kids as athletes.
District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha said that 1,048 athletes will compete in various events in the Khel Maharan 2.0. These 1,048 athletes were earlier selected from trials at the Legislative Assembly Council level. The competition is scheduled to conclude on February 5.
