Pay-Cuts For Underperforming Cricketers: BCCI To Introduce New Rules

Digital Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to introduce variable pay for the players which would allow the board to deduct money based on the players' performances. India's recent poor performances against New Zealand and Australia have made the board take this decision.

In this system, players will be both rewarded and penalized based on their performances. The decision was taken during a review meeting by the BCCI. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, India Captain Rohit Sharma, and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir were also present at the review meeting.

The system has been introduced to ensure that young players understand the importance and value of Test Cricket, the most prestigious and traditional format of cricket.

The decision was made based on India's poor performance against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a home Test series against visiting team New Zealand. India suffered a whitewash against New Zealand on home soil by 0-3. Then Australia defeated India by a 3-1 which resulted in the Indian team's disqualification from the World Test Championship Final, to be held at Lords Cricket Ground, England.

According to reports, the board also decided to limit the players' time with families during tours. The wives and families of the players can now stay with the players only for 14 days for a tour of 45 days. The players have to travel via the team bus instead of private cars during practices and matches.

It is to be mentioned that, BCCI has appointed Devajit Saikia as the new secretary, who hails from Assam, and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
