Roger Binny All Set To Replace Sourav Ganguly As The New BCCI President; Jay Shah To Remain Secretary

Nominations for president, secretary, vice president, joint secretary, and treasurer will be filed on October 11–12...

Digital Desk: Former India all-rounder and part of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning side, Roger Binny, is reportedly the top contender for the post of president in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections. According to reports on Tuesday (October 11), the 67-year-old former all-rounder would likely succeed the BCCI's current president, Sourav Ganguly, while Jay Shah is expected to continue as the cricket body’s secretary.

Reportedly, Binny’s name had recently appeared on the BCCI’s draft electoral rolls for the elections, scheduled to take place on October 18, as a representative of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Nominations for president, secretary, vice president, joint secretary, and treasurer will be filed on October 11–12, with the scrutiny taking place on October 13. Before October 14, candidates may withdraw their nominations. Meanwhile, Rajiv Shukla will reportedly remain the vice president of the BCCI.

Binny has played in 72 One-Day Internationals and 27 Tests. With 18 wickets in eight games, he ended up as the tournament's top wicket-taker. Binny has been selected to represent Karnataka at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM). Earlier, Karnataka State Cricket Association`s (KSCA) Santosh Menon would represent the state in the BCCI AGM. However, according to rumours, Sourav Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal this time, while Binny will represent the Karnataka unit.

With apparent doubts about Ganguly's future as BCCI president, speculation has centered on Binny, a former senior men's selector. Current BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been nominated to represent the Gujarat Cricket Association, while Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association treasurer Arun Dhumal has been nominated to represent the state body in the AGM. Dhumal is currently in a position to replace Brijesh Patel as head of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council.

A former BCCI treasurer named Anirudh Chaudhary will represent Haryana, and Rajiv Shukla, a current BCCI vice-president, will represent the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Adwait Manohar, son of former ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar, will represent the Vidarbha Cricket Association, and Ashish Shelar has been chosen to represent the Mumbai Cricket Association.
