Roger Binny is all prepared to get elected as 36th president at the BCCI's AGM

The BCCI's representative to the International Cricket Council may be the subject of intense debate during the Annual General Meet (ICC).

Digital Desk: On Tuesday, during the BCCI's 91st annual general meeting, Roger Binny will become the first World Cup champion to be elected president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) (AGM).

Binny, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president, would so succeed former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

While the BCCI election results will be formally disclosed at the AGM – all positions have been determined uncontested – the AGM may witness intense debate when the BCCI's representation to the International Cricket Council is finalised (ICC).

Instead of the BCCI offices, the AGM has been moved to a high-class hotel in south Mumbai.

With several political organisations demanding the political hierarchy's assistance in designating Ganguly as the official representative and allowing him to run for the ICC chief's seat, the BCCI hierarchy's stance during the AGM will be intriguing to see.

Unless there is a sudden shift in policy, Ganguly's appointment as an official representative of the ICC is doubtful.

The appointments of different selection panels will be another noteworthy aspect. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will be appointed at the AGM, and the BCCI office-bearers - Binny, secretary Jay Shah, and newly-elected treasurer Ashish Shelar - would then be authorised to appoint the senior selection committee in collaboration with the CAC.

Aside from replacing the vacant position for the west zone, the senior men's selection committee is likely to witness two additional changes.

The senior women's and junior men's selection committees are also likely to be restructured, if not completely overhauled, at the AGM. In addition, the first-ever women's junior selection panel will be established during the AGM, ahead of the inaugural women's Under-19 World Cup, which will be held in early 2023.

With Arun Dhumal, the retiring treasurer, and Avishek Dalmiya poised to be voted unopposed as Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council members, Dhumal is set to take over as IPL chairman from former India batsman Brijesh Patel.

    The Apex council includes:

    1| President: Roger Binny

    2| Vice-president: Rajeev Shukla

    3| Secretary: Jay Shah

    4| Treasurer: Ashish Shelar

    5| Joint secretary: Devajit Saikia

6| Councillor: Khairul Jamal Mujumdar (Male and female Indian Cricketers Association delegates will be elected later this month; a CAG nominee will be added.)

Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya are the members of the IPL's governing council (ICA representative to be elected later).
