Rohit Sharma beats MS Dhoni's T20 World Cup record, now equating with Shahid Afridi's
During India's mega showdown with crosstown rivals Pakistan in the ICC World T20 2022, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma broke MS Dhoni's elite record.

Digital Desk:  Indian captain Rohit Sharma surpassed MS Dhoni's elite record during India's mega battle with archrivals Pakistan in Australia on Sunday, making a remarkable captaincy debut at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

After two spectacular games in the Asia Cup 2022, India and Pakistan renewed their fierce rivalry at the greatest stage of them all, the ICC World Cup. On Sunday, the 2007 T20 World Cup finalists faced battle in their tournament opener.

On Sunday, the 2007 T20 World Cup champions and tournament-opening opponents faced off.

Indian skipper Rohit put his mark in the historical books as the seasoned opener came out for the customary coin toss at the illustrious MCG in their Super 12 (Match No. 16) opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022.

The white-ball maverick has more T20 World Cup appearances than Dhoni, making him the most capped Indian player ever.

On Sunday, Rohit, who was a member of Dhoni's World Cup-winning team in 2007, made his 34th appearance in the ICC event.

While Rohit has been in 34 T20 World Cup matches since his debut, former India captain Dhoni has appeared in 33 T20 World Cup matches. Interestingly, Rohit, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, and Dwayne Bravo have all played 34 T20 World Cup matches.

During the coin toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made a unique announcement when he declared the Men in Blue's playing XI for the upcoming match against Pakistan.

"The preparations have gone well. In Brisbane, we had a handful of practise games. It's time to go out and have some fun. We were expecting nothing less, and maybe we'll be able to entertain them (the crowd).

After India won the toss and chose to bowl at the MCG, Rohit told Ravi Shastri, "We have seven hitters, three seamers, and two spinners."

During the current edition of the T20 World Cup, India's all-format captain Rohit will also become the most-capped player in T20 World Cup history.
