Struggles Continue For Rohit Sharma: J&K Pacer Spoils Indian Captain's Ranji Trophy Return

Digital Desk: Team India's captain Rohit Sharma's poor form continued as he scored just 3 runs off 19 balls on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir at the Bandra Kurla Complex(BKR) ground on Thursday. Rohit's comeback to the Ranji Trophy after a decade was brief as he lost his wicket to pacer Umar Nazir Mir of J&K.

He was dismissed by Umar Nazir's outside off delivery. Rohit ended up giving his catch to PK Dogra. After his dismissal, he walked back to the pavilion with disappointment. Rohit was dismissed shortly after India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He managed to get just 4 runs and lost his wicket to another pacer of J&K Auqib Nabi.

Before the match, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bat first. The last time when Rohit appeared in a Ranji Trophy match, he performed brilliantly and scored a century against Uttar Pradesh.

Rohit's recent performances against New Zealand and Australia in the Test series compelled him to participate in the Ranji Trophy with BCCI's new directives to feature in domestic cricket for the maintenance of players' fitness. Rohit Sharma managed to get only 31 runs in five innings against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Born in Pulwama, a city of J&K, 31-year-old right-arm medium-pacer Umar has been playing cricket for the last 11 years with 120 matches.
