Virat Kohli not in the team for West Indies' T20Is, Rohit Sharma will lead the team

While Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are not included in the squad, Rohit Sharma will captain the team.

Digital Desk: There is no Virat Kohli in the West Indies T20I squad, but Ashwin and KL Rahul are back. While Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are not included in the squad, Rohit Sharma will captain the team. KL Rahul has rejoined the team, but his participation is contingent on his physical health.

The team for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies was announced on Thursday by the All-India Senior Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are not on the roster, Rohit Sharma will captain the team. KL Rahul has rejoined the team after missing last month's game due to injury.

His inclusion is contingent on fitness, though. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not selected for the team, but veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also been called up. While there was no mention of Kohli and Bumrah being rested for the series in the BCCI release or tweet.

The T20I squad for the upcoming West Indies series includes Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. On July 29, a five-game T20I series against the West Indies will start. Before the T20Is, a three-match ODI series will be played starting on July 22.

The inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the squad is contingent on his physical condition. While left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been selected for the T20Is, Express paceman Umran Malik is not included in the squad.

When the West Indies ODI team was announced earlier, players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah were all given rest days. The team's captain for the ODIs will be seasoned opener, Shikhar Dhawan.

All eyes will be on the performances of young players trying to stake a claim for a spot in the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia in October-November. These players include Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh.

When KL Rahul returns from his injury, India will need to lock down its top-order positions.

Due to a groyne strain, Kohli missed India's first ODI match against England. He has recently been out of form. Due to the injury, it is also uncertain whether he will play in the second ODI later today.
