India wins the first ODI by ten wickets to take a 1-0 series lead over England after 48 years

India defeats England by ten wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 series lead.

Digital Desk: The Indian team started the ODI series with a blaze, defeating England in the first ODI at the Kennington Oval on Tuesday. With the victory, India now leads the three-match series 1-0.

After winning a vital toss, Rohit chose to field first, and the new ball bowlers ably supported him. Jasprit Bumrah began the collapse with a double-wicket maiden delivery.

Bumrah took four wickets in a period that read 5-2-9-4, with six runs coming off wides.

Jos Buttler tried to stay top-scored with 30, but he was caught short. England appeared to be falling well short of their lowest-ever total of 86, but a ninth-wicket stand between David Willey and Brydon Carse ensured they went past it.

Bumrah finished with career-best statistics of 6/19, third-best for an Indian in ODIs and fourth-best in England. Shami contributed three wickets of his own, while Prasidh Krishna grabbed the last wicket.

There were tense moments early in the run chase, with Shikhar Dhawan almost throwing away his wicket while taking a single. Besides a few misplays, Rohit and Dhawan were at ease after that.

Rohit was in top form as he pulled and hooked his way to his 44th ODI fifty. On the other end, Dhawan stayed around, gaining some much-needed batting experience as India ultimately knocked down the 111-run goal in the 19th over.
