Digital Desk: Former all-rounder and ODI and T20 World Cup-winner Yuvraj Singh has expressed that 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand on home soil is more hurtful than the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 defeat against Australia. He requested fans not to forget the past achievements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma despite their recent failures.
"According to me, losing 3-0 at home to New Zealand is more hurtful. It’s not acceptable. Losing the BGT is still understandable because India has won twice in Australia before. This time, they
lost, but Australia has been a dominant side for so many years," Yuvraj Singh said in an interview with a news agency.
"We are talking about our greats—Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. People are saying bad things about them but forget what they’ve achieved. They are two of the greatest cricketers of this time. They are probably more hurt than us by these results," Yuvraj added.
While both Virat and Rohit faced widespread criticisms for their poor form, Yuvraj Singh chose to support both for their remarkable contributions to Indian Cricket over the years.
"I have never seen a captain step aside due to poor form. Rohit putting the team ahead of himself shows his greatness as a leader," Yuvraj said in the interview. Yuvraj Singh praised skipper Rohit Sharma's decision to drop himself from the final Test match of BGT because of his poor form.
He also conveyed hopefulness for the Indian team’s coming time under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir (Head coach), Ajit Agarkar (Selector), and senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah. Yuvraj Singh further commented, "These are the best minds in cricket right now. I am confident they will decide the right way forward for Indian cricket."
"When players don’t perform, it’s easy to criticize. But supporting them during tough times is what matters. The media’s job may be to criticize, but my job is to stand by my friends and brothers. For me, they are family," Yuvraj included.
Yuvraj also believed that the Indian team would bounce back powerfully under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
