Digital Desk: Aditya-L1, India's ambitious spacecraft mission, sent images of the Earth and the Moon on Thursday as it headed toward its destination Lagrangian point (L1), which is located 1.5 million km from the Earth.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) shared the images on Twitter along with a selfie that Aditya-L1 had clicked.
The Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency stated, "Aditya-L1, destined for the Sun-Earth L1 point, takes a selfie and images of the Earth and the Moon."
The photos represent the instruments VELC (Visible Emission Line Coronagraph) and SUIT (Solar Ultraviolet Imager) as observed by the Aditya-L1 camera on September 4, 2023.
On September 2, the mission lifted from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
Before placing the transfer orbit near Lagrange point L1, the spacecraft will perform two more earthbound orbital manoeuvres. After 125 days, Aditya-L1 is anticipated to arrive at its intended orbit at the L1 point.
With the help of the solar probe, ISRO is accomplishing its second milestone in less than a month after the country beat others to the lunar south pole in late August.
India's other ongoing projects include a human spaceflight program that aims to launch astronauts into orbit for the first time, possibly by 2025, says ISRO Chairman S. Somanath.
