Digital Desk: Twitter suspended a record 682,420 accounts in India between January 26 and February 25 for encouraging child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity, as the company battles to become profitable under Elon Musk and takes dramatic measures that have enraged users.

As part of the change under Musk, the microblogging platform suspended 1,548 accounts because they promoted violence.

Based on Twitter's monthly report under the new IT Rules, 2021, the company received only 73 complaints from Indian customers during that time frame.

In addition, Twitter handled 27 complaints from users who were dissatisfied with account bans.

We chose to reinstate ten of these account suspensions after an additional review. The corporation has verified that it will continue to "suspend the remaining reported accounts."

"We also received 24 queries related to general inquiries concerning Twitter accounts during the same time period," it said.

According to the new IT Regulations 2021, big digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users are needed to provide monthly compliance reports.

On April 1, Twitter said it would be removing all historical verified blue check marks, and users would have to pay either Rs 900 per month or Rs 9,400 per year to retain the blue badge with verification, which comes with perks like being able to edit tweets and send longer text/video content.
